This painting was inspired by a view of the Lagan river in Belfast.

What attracts me to this image is the enigmatic and ethereal atmosphere. The overall tone is warm with accents of contrasting cobalt.

I usually start with a real or mental place that has a particular significance to me. Then I scrape down unnecessary details searching for the essential true feeling.

I believe that process is important and I try to make it visible through the work. Often my paintings
are made of layers of various materials. I believe that less is more and taking off is important as
adding. While stratifying the paint I like to make visible the various stages of the process and leave
part of the painting unfinished.

In my work I like to leave a margin of interpretation, leaving something untold. I want the viewer to
take the time to experience and get inspired and to do this I try to keep my painting minimalistic
and essential.

The fleeting light, seasons, the flow of time, and ageing are strong influences in my work.
